This is one of the nicest sites I have seen in a while... very clean, great color scheme.

Love t.

Great Job!

Very nice. I especially like the navigation, although I can't shake the suspicion that I've seen a similar implementation somewhere else. Still, I like this design very much.

Am I the only one that hates this trend of putting diagonal banners across the upper left corner?

Wow, I didn't even know my site had got on here, thanks for the feedback I'm really pleased to see people like my work.

JR: I don't particularly love the diagonal banners but it's the only option makepovertyhistory.org give you for banners ;) and seeing it is for a good cause...

This is easily the best-designed site I have ever seen on CSS Beauty for a VERY LONG time. Fantastic colors, excellent text rendering, very good navigation. I commend you, Alistair.

The visited link / strikeout has confused some people. Very nice site, the colours mix well, like Heinz beans colours. Would be nice to see some descriptive alt tags on the main folio page. A simplistic and tidy layout and the header reminds me of beautiful postcards. I'd like the header to change, just my pref, I guess maybe it does.

also nice use of the server default page and /?s=... address line. also keeps things tidy.

Thanks, I would have used the clean URL system provided by TextPattern but it's not yet compatible with IIS which is what my host is, so as soon as it is compatible they will get even cleaner, this was a kind of compromise as standard URL's can be quite nice and clean if you are careful :)

Also the alt tags are something I have to do when I get some time but they will be coming.

I choose the strikeout for visited links as I was really bored of using other visited link styles and wanted something unusual.

As for the header, I will be introducing a rotating system very soon, just letting it get settled in.

Thanks for your comments kernohan!

I don't understand why the designer made the colums so darn small..

GravatarOn April 29, 2005 11:21 AM Alistair said:

TInus: I wanted to achieve a site that was small and perfectly formed and to make sure no users had to scroll sideways, I hate sites that are too wide for browser windows!

GravatarOn April 29, 2005 2:01 PM JR said:

I think the width is perfect. There's not an abundance of text in the first place, and the default font size is pretty small, so the narrow column size works, in my opinion.

I did just notice the comments, though. I don't like the colid black background.. Something much lighter would have worked better.

The css seems to be from Happycog and it looks like Shaun Inman, but the colours are very nice

GravatarOn April 30, 2005 5:11 PM Alistair said:

Martin, the CSS is not from Happycog, it is entirely my own creation :) And yes Shaun Inman's site was definitely a great inspiration to me.

Looks fantastic but the main navigation doesn't work at all with CSS turned off.

wow, I really like this one. I love the site and I love the work.

I like it a lot. Very clean, nice colors, nice design.
I see more of a Jon Hicks inspiration in it than I do Inman. Like a combo of color scheme from Hicks designs and the technical look of Inmans stuff.
