By the way, that pic reminded me of J. Zeldman

everyone mentioned eye problems... I'll definitely see what I can do about that. I've done my best to prevent the FOUC by adding the script element directly above the css... I also have a style switcher on the page... might be a combination of the two.As for the margins, am I missing something? Seems to be plent of space between things.
And the beanie pic, That's really me ->

good stuff...

I beleive they're reffering to the white on red text... which is rather difficult for me as well.
On January 20, 2005 3:13 PM niel said:The Margins on my screen are big on both sides. Might be better if they scaled more to fit higher resolutions. Plus, when big font is used there is hardly enough room to for the words, making it more difficult to read.
Other than that, It looks pretty good, might want to tinker with the color scheme a bit but I like it.
On January 20, 2005 3:20 PM Eric said:Yes. That white on RED text, combined with a smallish font equals a very difficult to read site. I swore my eyes crossed.

See Big Stark and Chunky at ALA
http://www.alistapart.com/articles/lowvision/It's called a zoom layout. Hopefully that clears it up a bit. Plus, you have the option to make the font bigger, and change the design. The point of it was to give the user options :)
This overall design was based off a gap t-shirt I received for christmas. thought that might be fun information to know :)

I do however recommend making it wider. Even in 600X 800 there is still lots of room on all sides.
Good job. Thumbs up. :)
On January 21, 2005 12:29 AM Dustin said:It's not much smaller than ALA, I suppose I was going for a thin look this time. Everything I've done has been wide (e.g. 770px or 95%). Just something new that's all.
The comments are great you guys, this is like getting free usability testing :)
On the comment of Jeffrey Zeldman, I've been wearing beanies years before I've ever heard of him. So I can honestly say that's just my personality.

On January 21, 2005 10:56 PM Preston said:Pretty nice; I drowned in the margins to the left and right - there is too much space! Also, the hover on the text is very annoying sometimes (does not work in IE, by the way) and the hover of the links are arrogantly distracting also. I like the navigation, though...but isn't "up front" from ALA? (By the way, I ALA's new design; too slanty) But pretty good blog.

=================That's because IE doesn't support :hover pseudo classes on non-anchor elements. For instance p:hover

On February 6, 2005 2:51 PM Dustin said:There are two fonts. Verdana, and Georgia.
On the issue of opera...I'm fully aware of the buggy nav menu.

The site looks slovenly, IMO, especially the rollover background of the tabs — I couldn't figure out what that was supposed to mean: still it looks like dirt to me. Just as the background for the main orange column: I see that it's the same patchwork as the page background, but it looks dirty too.
And I would work a bit on the text of the logo: seems like it's simply text rendered in Photoshop. However, you always need some retouching and adding some niceties for a logo with your hands when working on a logo.
On February 15, 2005 3:13 PM pulphero said:The content is structured like building blocks: one content brick on top of another. And the color scheme is far too pale and dreary. It hurts my eyes: physically and figuratively! I'd work on putting more flow and grace into the structure, and I'd definitely ramp up the contrast between text and background colors.
