CSS Beauty Relaunch

Well here it is!, brand spanking new CSS Beauty.

Over the last couple of months I've been working hard to get the new design and additions up, and today it finally pays off.

Some new additions and improvements:

  • Revamp of HTML and CSS
  • "Gallery" view (thumbnails)
  • News Archives
  • CSS Monster
  • CSS Shuffle
  • Many layout changes
  • Gravatars
  • Many more I can't remember :)

There will also be some additions made in the next couple of months, depending how the new features are received.

I would love to hear your comments and suggestions.

There are still a few bugs out there and fixes to be made... if you come accross any, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thanks!

Alex Giron.

Congratulation! Definitely my favourite CSS Site!!! I love it :) Greetings from Vienna!

Wow, this is definately a change! I love the 'monster'icon, and the new gallery!

Just one comment if you don't mind;
Some people zoom in on the text to make it easier to read... I often use it to find things that will break up a website. I see that the tabs in the menu repeat itself after resizing. I tihnk it would look betterif the "repeat"-function in CSs is turned to "none" for the menu ;)

(i'm referring to the tabs you see when you hover over a button, and the ones you see when you're at the paged you clicked)

Other then that, it's amááázing. The magnifying glass in the searchbar is a very nice touch!

It's hot. Really, really awesome design. A real step up, and I like the flexibility.

I'm blogging this for sure :)

I'm sorry - I actually liked your old design better...

Beauty in simplicity, and don't fix it if it ain't broken, but don't get me wrong - this is still one of the sexier sites around...

Bah, sorry, but I liked the old design much better, too...

I think the new one is also very hard to read. The contrast is much too low.

This redesign is very elegant. It's refreshing to see a design that relies heavily on blue, instead of all that gray that's been so prominent lately.

oh, and the lamp in the corner is a nice touch :)

Nice Redesign, but the fontsize could be a little bit bigger ;o)

Shouldn't the newest news be on the left column? rather than the right one...

otherwise I'm impressed to say the least. great redesign, and it seems there are tons of new exciting features...

GravatarOn October 20, 2005 7:33 AM RonB said:

Hmm. The old one simply looked better. From a user-experience this one works better.
It seems to go more towards a generic blog-look. The beauty is taken out, which is a shame for a site which has beauty in it's name.

I love this cool and so fresh design. I really like it! Well done!

Just one stupid remark: The content part of the website seems a bit too small for me compare to the "left-menu" but it is just to say something ^_^

Great job!

GravatarOn October 20, 2005 8:40 AM Andrew said:

I miss the old one already :(
couldn't you just have the theme for the old one an option?

GravatarOn October 20, 2005 9:14 AM Yannick said:

I like the re-design, especially the home page, however for pages like this one wouldn't it be be better to have the content as the first column on the left, while the entries by month, categories and recommended be the 2nd, 3rd and 4th columns respectively? Also the blue font colour is going to take a little getting used to. hehe.

Other than that it's a wonderful re-design. Job well done to all involved.

Great redesign. I particularly missed you deeply. Good work indeed. Welcome back

GravatarOn October 20, 2005 9:59 AM Rafa Garcia said:

One thing, when i put in the email address an Antispam mail (user{at}server{dot}com), i got an error page from mt saying this:

Build error in template 'Comment Error Template': Error in tag: Can't find included file '/includes/sponsor.inc'

And no way to come back. Maybe you should fix this, pal.

Hasta pronto.

GravatarOn October 20, 2005 10:17 AM Paul J said:

Wow, it's beautiful but I think some of the pages lack a little structure. The home page especially looks a little messy to me.

Great job though, classy.

Amazing job on the redesign, Alex. It's obvious you put a ton of hard work into the new Beauty. Great colors and layout, and the new features will definitely be a valuable asset to the community.

Now go get some well deserved sleep :P

Hi, great website redesign!

Where can I find a beta version of the job listing code? I've a free job page on a client site and it looks like the perfect thing for me.

Re: Nick

The code for Ekwipment is still being worked on so it's not quite up to being ready for widespread distribution. If you sign up for updates on Ekwipment.com I'll be sure to pass along more information as it gets closer to that point.

It's ok I like new layout, but to be honest I don't like color of links. It's too brigh. Maybe some red instead of orange wuould be better.

GravatarOn October 20, 2005 12:04 PM Ben said:

It looks fantastic. Big improvement with the gallery view.

A few points of criticism: the color contrast of the blue might be hard on the eyes. The right alignment of postings is a little odd but nothing really to quibble about.

Well, what can I say, I liked previous design better. I would probably like this one if I didn't seen previous one, but since I did, this is like step in wrong direction.
This layout is too busy and too much trying to do things, previous one was simpler and easier to get around.

GravatarOn October 20, 2005 2:38 PM Shaun said:

A single nit-pick, I'd like to see the logo linked to the front page. Very trivial, but it always seems to be my first route 'home', rather than looking for a link named such.

GravatarOn October 20, 2005 3:47 PM Árni Gunnar said:

Actually ... I am not very happy about this redesign. To me, there are a lot of usability problems.

1) Default text is too small.
2) Distribution of news items on the front page is just redicilous.
3) When I read a news article, most of the space on the page is taken up by gallery archives, not the article itself (that is so for most of the "static" pages).
4) The logo is not clickable, big NO NO.
5) There is no button to search, user has to hit enter.

The sections I do like are the news archive. News list on the left and archive on the right. Gallery page is nice.

The monster thingy is ok ... like the little monster instead of the letter "o".

These were just my few comments. Easy to fix, and just regular bugs when you are rolling out a brand new site.

GravatarOn October 20, 2005 3:50 PM Árni Gunnar said:

Just one more thing ... and no I am not plugging a new iPod here ...

Why can't I get to the comments and see the submition dates in the gallery, but I can do that on the front page ??

wow, fantastic, I'm feelin the layout and like that there is still dominant whitespace.

Liked the old design a lot better. It was awesome.

GravatarOn October 20, 2005 6:46 PM Bradley said:

I do like the "feel" of the new site, but the layout just seems off. It looks like the columns and sections are just floating around, and each section seems to display columns differently, which could be confusing.

I also agree that it is very hard to read, and would suggest using more contrasting colors.

GravatarOn October 20, 2005 7:16 PM netomer said:

nice!

GravatarOn October 20, 2005 7:34 PM Jarrod said:

I have so far only clicked on gallery.

My first thoughts are PLEASE increase the size of the thumbnails, you can`t really get any sort of idea of the website as it currently is. Also the reduction in JPEG quality makes my stomach turn.

GravatarOn October 20, 2005 10:27 PM Danny Foo said:

Looks excellent! Though I'll be needing to get use to this extra spacious layout. :D

Cheers and Congrats.

Not only is the site beautiful and clean, but the XHTML is really crud free.

I could do with a little more contrast in the color of the font. In some comments the text overlaps the icon, not a huge deal...

It's bizarre that your js is inline verus a link.. could save user and yourself a few bytes, no?

great great great ...

GravatarOn October 23, 2005 6:32 AM Amir said:

Please, change the contrast of the text, it's very hard to read now. Try dark blue color.

well my 2 cents, i am a designer first coder second. so my heart is with the prevoius design. it looked a lot better than this one. it was organized in a better fashion i believe. this one serves its purpose well and if i had not seen or used the previous version i would have no qualms with this one. just my two cents.

great work ont he effort, I just like fixed width straight lined sites :)
