Wow, solid design. I've been suscribing to Veerle's feed for a year now and have always been a fan of her work. Great job Veerle. Keep up the great work.

I've really enjoyed quite a few CSS Beauty entries recently and Veerle's new layout is no different.

I'm always impressed when people can pull off dark backgrounds without looking samey, and the subtle treats dotted around her blog serve to differentiate from the crowd.

I particularly like the the opacity effect on the main menu tabs and the way she's managed to cram an awful lot of information without leaving us feeling overloaded.

The site was being a bit unresponsive so I didn't have time to have a good look around, but I'll certainly be returning for a second look later.

Looks like her host took the site off because of bandwidth usage!

It's been a while since I haven't see a stunning design on CSSbeauty.

Congratulations!

One of the very nicest designs I have seen in quite a while. Clean, usable with lots of clever design nuances. I particularly like the use of transparency, subtle shadows, restraint in rollover effects, and color scheme (not to mention the content itself).

I give it a 10.

Lovely pick! It's indeed a beautiful site, you can tell a lot of time and care has gone into creating it.

Very well done indeed. Liked it from the first glance. Yeah, looks like she's got some traffic problems, the site sometimes doesn't respond. Really inspiring design!

I think it's kind of "busy" and "all over the place" Not the most user friendly website. But I do love her work.

GravatarOn March 2, 2006 6:30 PM Darren Ansley said:

I don't think it's busy at all. It has a lot going on, but the elegant use of color and typography helps clearly define each area. Overall it's a very nicely designed site.

GravatarOn March 3, 2006 1:55 AM neal kernohan said:

to me, it's all those lovely little details that make it. those rounded corners, the little icons, that 90 degree shadow. love the colour scheme and the choice of fonts also, works well for a blog/self-promo site. not corporate yet very tidy and more friendly.

Thanks for featuring me here on CSS Beauty, I feel humbly in the presence of all the great sites that were featured before me. Let me also apologize for my site being unreachable, my host moved me to a dedicated server and things went wrong badly. I am seriously considering switching to another host after that debacle. To all other people here thanks for the great comments, I am still overwhelmed and can’t believe it all.

Occasionally a design comes along that invokes both feelings of intense jealousy and inspiration - this is one of them. This makes me want to be a better designer.

This is up there with the best of the best. Breath it all in fellow webbions - this has got it all ...

Wow that's really nice, lots of content and well thought out, there's really not much I can say about this site that is negative and I think that is a rare thing given the current experimentation(al) state of the web (2.0 for the nerds).

Classic yet contemporary feel, nice use of colour, I love it, well done.

Very nice design, but poor usability.

mARTin: Specifically how is the usability poor?

Veerle may have nice graphics (art?), no doubt about that.
But that’s about it. Just try to find there something and measure your time..
It’s like X-mass tree: colors, things, lights, lines, dots, lines, corners, no-corners, shadows, plain image….
And I think that I miss there one thing: confetti’s!

GravatarOn March 29, 2006 8:41 PM Andri said:

Vááá!!!! .. the best work I have ever seen .. no kidding, the amount of detail is amazing!

I had to come in on the end of the comments here and put in my two pennies worth. Hope no one minds.

I think that Veerle's site is absolutely fantastic for many different reasons. The two main reasons being the quality of the design, which whilst it may not be to everyones taste is nonetheless priceless and secondly the most important aspect of the site, content!

A site is nothing without good solid content and Veerle's is second to none.

I don't quite know what some people have meant by try and find something and you can't because if I want to find something on her site I can do within less than 3 clicks. Now if that isn't good site design then I don't know what is.

Veerle has taken EE (Expression Engine) and created an exceptionally thorough site using it. The attention to detail throughout the site is second to none. May I also remind everyone that even though she isn't english her use of the language beats most english speakers I have ever come across.

I give the site 11 out of 10. It truly is a magnificent site that shows what can be done when you truly put your mind to it.

Best wishes,

Mark Bowen
