Job Description
As a member of the Technology and Creative Services team, a Web Software Engineer is responsible for developing commercial and enterprise grade Web applications used for Web design and on-line marketing. The successful Web Software Engineer must have a good understanding of the Web development life-cycle and the procedures needed to complete a commercial grade Web application. The ideal candidate will possess broad knowledge of Web standards (XHTML, CSS, Web accessibility) and the standard technologies used in Web development (.NET, PHP, Ruby on Rails, relational databases, etc.).
Qualifications
- Candidate must possess strong Web design and production skills, with experience building large scale Web applications.
- Candidate must be passionate about the Web with expert level knowledge in semantic markup, document structure and Cascading Style Sheets, and an obsession with the separation of structure from presentation from function.
- Candidate must have expert knowledge of XHTML and CSS for Web site layout.
- Candidate must have expert knowledge of ASP.Net (C# or VB.Net), PHP, or Ruby on Rails
- Candidate must be able to implement XHTML layouts that are consistent with project goals and Webxites’ coding and production standards.
- Experience with information architecture (content design, site mapping, wire framing, user experience design, etc.) an absolute plus.
- Candidate must have a solid understanding of current W3C Web standards (XHTML 1.0, CSS 2.1 and WCAG guidelines for accessibility.) and how to use them in the Web production and development life-cycle.
- Experience with JavaScript or AJAX for client side UI development a plus.
- Experience working with a common source control environment (e.g. Visual Source Safe, CVS, and Subversion) a plus.
- Candidate must have extensive experience using a mainstream Web production tool (e.g. Dreamweaver MX+, Homesite), experience with Visual Studio, Eclipse or other Web development environment a plus.
- Candidate must have extensive experience with graphic productions (e.g. Photoshop, Fireworks, Illustrator, etc.)
- Basic Windows and/or Linux administration experience a plus.
- Post-Secondary Degree or Certification (Computer Science or MIS degree, MCSD, MCSE or CIW certification), or equivalent experience with 5+ years of experience in Web development and/or design.
