    Hello!
I am desperately trying to catch the idea how to design websites based on grid and I still think I don't understand it right.
I read Mark Boulton's famous articles, but I can't understand what is the main idea and how to divide web page on blocks.
Maybe somebody can explain? :) or give a link what to read.
    Thanks in advance!

Oops, I was going to suggest the same article when I saw your subject line!

Reading some general books/webpages on design and layout might give you a broader understanding of grids, look at some early Swiss graphic design, or things like this kind of diagram for a starting point. Another great layout book going cheap here. With a bit of thought you can apply most of these theories to the web, as you're also dealing with type and space.

Actual online things to look at, hmmm I need to think about that...

Thanks a lot! Maybe anyone knows other articles about grids on the website?
In Mark's article I can't understand how he divides the A4 page, that's why I can't get the main idea.

    What exactly you can't understand?
Also I’m not agree with what he saying but you can apply different logic to the grid layout.
If you ask me it's more on intuitive level then trying to calculate it.

    Best, DS

Yeah, I tried calculated grids for a while but found that it just stifled my creativity. Intuition almost always serves one well.
