I think I understand the reason for not allowing general "review my site" topics but I'm curious for an official reason. If the goal of Skillshare is to share solutions and fix problems, the general "rate my site" topics often lead to that.

    Example,

    Someone posts their site
I say how unsemantic it is
They ask how to fix it
    Someone tells them
They run into a problem with IE and ask how to fix it
    Someone helps
    etc

The site itself leads to sharing and fixing solutions and problems.

Is there a reason why these topics are looked down upon here?

These kind of topics do sometimes lead to solutions etc... but most of the time it becomes a "here's my very subjective opinion on it" kind of responses which don't really help.

"review my site, critique my site, etc." are way too general topics... discussions can go into design, code, grammar, and who knows what else.

Sometimes people take advantage and just post a site to get a few clicks...

So I guess the main reasons for not allowing these type of topics are:

    Opinions are subjective.
    People might take advantage.
The forum gets filled with "review my site" topics.

Not sure if I anwered your question, but I tried.

You answered my question, yes. I figured this was going to be the answer and I agree with you to a point.

    Thanks.

I agree that there should be a limit to the - "Hey, here's my new website, what do you think?" posts. They get old, and really don't build the forum community. Most people who post those types of links are just trolling for hits.

There are certainly ways around the rule. For instance:

I just finished redesigning my site, but I'm having trouble with __________; here's the url, can you please check it out, etc.
